Not every wall needs a television in it. The same joinery that makes a media wall makes a panelled feature wall, in a bedroom, a hall or behind a dining table, and it is the least expensive thing on this site.

What is involved
The three kinds we fit.
They cost different amounts and they suit different rooms, and the difference is mostly about how much shadow you want on the wall.

Slatted
Square battens with an even gap, on a backing board. It throws the strongest shadow of the three and it is what most people mean when they say a slat wall. Works best with light raking across it.

Fluted
Half round profiles set close together, so the wall reads as a soft ripple rather than as stripes. Quieter than slatted, and better in a bedroom or anywhere you want texture without drama.

Painted panelling
Flat panels with a moulded frame, in the proportions of the room rather than a standard grid. The traditional option, and the only one of the three that suits a Victorian room with cornice.

Can I have panelling without a television?
Yes, and it is the simplest thing we do. A plain panelled feature wall with no recess, no fire and no cabling is a short job and priced as one.
Does it go over the existing plaster?
Usually. The battens are fixed through the plaster into the wall behind, so the plaster stays put. Blown or damp plaster has to be dealt with first, and we will say so at the survey rather than board over it.
How much depth does it lose from the room?
Between 25 and 45 millimetres depending on the profile. On a chimney breast that is nothing, in a narrow hall it is worth measuring before you decide.
Is it real timber?
The slatted and fluted profiles are timber on a backing board. Painted panelling is MDF, because it is more stable than timber under paint and will not open at the joints in a heated room.
Can it go behind a bed?
It is one of the best places for it. A panelled wall behind a bed does the job a headboard does and does not have to be moved to clean behind.
What about sockets and switches in the panelled area?
They are brought forward flush into the panel face. Leaving them recessed behind the panelling is both ugly and not acceptable work, so it is part of the job rather than an extra.
