The Hilbre is the wall to pick when the television is the point and the fire is not. It is the least expensive way to get the screen off its bracket and into the wall, which is most of what people are actually after when they ask about a media wall.

Because there is no fire, there is no heat to plan around and no spur to run, so it is the quickest of the six to fit and the least disruptive. If you think you might want a fire one day, say so at the survey: the frame can be built to take one later, which is far cheaper than opening the wall up again.

Can I add a fire to the Hilbre later?

Not without rebuilding the centre panel, because the fire aperture and the heat clearance around it change how the frame is built. If a fire is a possibility, tell us at the survey and we will build the frame to take one. That costs very little now and a great deal later.

Does the television have to come off the wall first?

Yes, and the old bracket comes off too. We take the screen down, keep it somewhere safe while we work, and put it back into the recess at the end.

What happens to the plug sockets behind it?

Anything buried behind the wall has to stay reachable, so a socket that would end up inaccessible is either brought forward into the panel face or left in an opening behind a removable section. We work that out at the survey, not on the day.

Can it go on a stud wall rather than a chimney breast?

Yes. A stud wall needs the frame fixed into the studs rather than the plasterboard, so we find them and set the frame out to suit. It makes no difference to the finished look or to the price.

How wide can it go?

The Hilbre is designed up to about three metres. Wider than that and the shelf wants a centre support, which changes the look, so we would point you at the Caldy instead.
