A three sided fire is the one option that has to be decided by the room rather than by preference. It is only worth doing where the wall genuinely returns and you will see the fire from more than one direction, which usually means an open plan space or a peninsula rather than a chimney breast.
The wing is what people remember. A bookcase return gives the wall depth and stops the whole elevation reading as one flat plane, and a bar section does the same job while being useful. Either way it is drawn first, because a wing in the wrong place makes a room feel smaller rather than richer.

Can I have a sink in the bar section?
Where there is water and a waste within reach, yes, but the plumbing is a separate trade and a separate cost. Most bar wings we build are dry: a counter, a shelf for glasses and lighting.
Where does a three sided fire actually work?
Where the wall returns and you see the fire from two or three sides, so open plan rooms and peninsulas. Set into a flat chimney breast it costs more and looks the same as an inset, so we will talk you out of it.
What is microcement like to live with?
It is a hard mineral finish, seamless, and it takes a knock better than paint. It cannot be touched up invisibly in the way paint can, so it suits a wall you want to leave alone rather than one behind a busy doorway.
Is there a limit on how big it can be?
Practically, the limit is what fits through the door in sections and what can be scribed to a wall that is not straight. We work that out at the drawing stage and tell you if a design is going to cause trouble on the day.
How far ahead do I need to book this one?
Longer than the others, because the finishes are ordered in and the joinery takes longer in the workshop. We give you a real date at the point of ordering rather than an optimistic one.
